How Stress Almost Took My Life—and the Emotional Energy Shift That Saved Me

What I Learned from Having Sepsis

I never saw it coming. One day, I was running a 5K—feeling strong and accomplished. The next, I was fighting for my life in a hospital bed with sepsis.


At 50 years old, I believed I was in great physical health. I had just completed my annual check-up, exercised regularly, and ate well. But none of that stopped stress from silently taking its toll on my body.


The Invisible Toll of Stress

At the time, I was working in a high-pressure corporate role that constantly drained me. I felt overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted. My mind was filled with self-doubt and worry:

  • "I’ll never catch up."

  • "I’m not good enough for this role."

  • "What if I make a mistake and lose my job?"

Looking back, I now understand that I was carrying an enormous weight of low emotional energy—without even realizing it. And it was taking a serious toll on my health.


The Hidden Link Between Emotional Energy and Health

During my healing process, I discovered a powerful truth: our emotional energy directly impacts our physical well-being, mental clarity, and overall happiness.

Prolonged stress and low emotional energy weaken the immune system, increase inflammation, and make us more susceptible to illness. On the other hand, raising our emotional energy strengthens resilience, enhances health, and invites more joy into our lives.


How to Raise Your Emotional Energy

The good news? You have the power to shift your emotional energy and protect your health. Here are a few strategies that helped me:


  1. Gratitude Practice – Listing even three things daily rewires the brain for positivity.

  2. Affirmations – Speak or write empowering statements to shift your mindset.

  3. Journaling – Expressing emotions helps process and release negative energy.

  4. Visualization – Picture yourself in a joyful, successful state to attract that energy.

  5. Mindfulness & Present-Moment Awareness – Reduce stress by focusing on the now.
